On Saturday, Nov. 21, at 10 a.m., students of Lynn’s Gay-Straight Alliance are heading to West Palm Beach to protest NARTH, The National Association for Research and Therapy of Homosexuality. NARTH is holding their 2009 convention titled “Preventing & Treating Sexual Identity Confusion in the Lives of Children, Adolescents and Adults” at the West Palm Beach Marriott Hotel.
Devin Reeves, president of Lynn’s Gay-Straight Alliance, says his group will be joining with other area groups to hold a three-hour (11 a.m. to 2 p.m.) non-violent protest contesting NARTH’s claims that homosexuals have a psychological dysfunction and that homosexuality can be cured. The American Psychiatric Association and the American Medical Association label these messages and othersas dangerous. “Our ultimate mission is to stop NARTH from emotionally abusing children and spreading their propaganda in our community,” Reeves said.
